University Hospitals Bristols NHS Trust is breaking new ground by using ISEEU Global's secure telemedicine systems in cancer care. The ISEEU solutions are being used to facilitate the meeting of multidisciplinary advisory teams for enhanced patient care and greater resource efficiency.
Telemedicine: The Challenge
The value of multidisciplinary teams is widely accepted and has been extensively implemented across the country. However, to develop and implement a successful team you need a substantial number of healthcare professionals to attend the meetings. More often than not, this requires most attendees to travel.
To reduce the impact of absence, and to cut down on the overheads of travel time, many parts of the NHS are looking to more innovative approaches, such as telemedicine systems.
The solution: Pilot of ISEEU telemedicine systems
In 2010 the South West TYAC MDaT undertook a telemedicine pilot using ISEEU™ Global software. During the pilot, MDaT meetings were arranged in a way that allowed clinicians to make their contributions remotely at a specific time slot. They used a virtual platform/meeting centre so that it was not necessary for referrers or the TYA MDaT to be physically present in the same room for the meeting.
Deirdre Brunton, TYA South West Lead Nurse and co-sponsor of the ISEEU pilot explains:
“We sought a solution with highly secure connectivity and data transfer that would enable clinical staff to connect, transfer and share patient information in real-time; reducing time pressures, and increasing the efficiency of working practices.”
